With its unique design and fabrication possibilities, additive manufacturing (AM) is rapidly gaining relevance in a wide field of scientific and industrial applications. Especially when considering industrial exploitation, a sound knowledge and control of the influential factors dominating the process is crucial, to ensure constant quality. In addition to the properties of the laser spot as the actual tool processing the powder, also the behavior of the deflection unit plays a key role. However, current state‐of‐the‐art diagnostic devices do not fully address these issues.
